Why Might Your iPhone Not Be Charging?

Dirty Charging Port

One of the most common reasons why an iPhone stops charging is dirt or lint accumulated in the charging port. This weakens the connection between the USB-C or Lightning plug and the port, causing charging to stop, only occurring when the cable is moved, or not starting at all. This problem is especially common when the phone is frequently kept in a pocket or backpack.

Solution: before cleaning, turn off the phone. Gently clean the port with a wooden or plastic toothpick or use a rubber air blower. Do not use metal tools and do not use liquids. Wipe the contacts of the charging cable plug with a clean, dry cloth. If the situation does not change after cleaning, contact a service for a professional inspection.

Faulty Charger or Cable

Over time, cables can break at the connectors, and worn out or low-quality adapters can provide unstable power. Using unreliable accessories often results in slow, intermittent, or completely non-functional charging.

Solution: try using a different known working cable and power adapter, as well as a different electrical outlet or USB port. Choose original or compatible accessories from reputable manufacturers. If the phone charges normally with the other set, replace the old accessories.

Software Glitch

Sometimes charging can be disrupted by operating system issues or stuck process states. This is especially noticeable after updates or the installation of new applications.

Solution: perform a forced restart. iPhone 8 and newer: quickly press “volume up,” then “volume down,” then hold the side button until the “Apple” logo appears. iPhone 7/7 Plus: hold the side (power) and “volume down” buttons until the logo appears. After restarting, check for updates: Settings → General → Software Update.

Faulty Charging Port

If the cable fits loosely, “wobbles,” charging stops when the phone is moved, or the port is visibly damaged/oxidized, it is likely that the port itself has worn out or has been affected by moisture.

Solution: if cleaning the port and replacing the cable and adapter does not resolve the issue, diagnostics are necessary. Our service will determine the extent of the damage and, if needed, replace the charging port.

Battery Wear

If the phone discharges quickly, unexpectedly shuts down at 20–30%, or the “Battery Health” value has significantly decreased, it is very likely that the battery has worn out and is no longer providing the necessary current for stable charging.

Solution: check Settings → Battery → Battery Health. If it shows “Service” or the capacity has significantly decreased, we recommend battery replacement – after replacement, charging and operating time usually normalize.

Faulty Board Chip

When neither cleaning the port nor changing accessories helps, and the battery is fine, the cause may be a failure in the power/charging circuit of the main board.

Solution: professional diagnostics and micro-soldering work are required. We recommend contacting our service – we will assess whether the repair is economically justified and offer the most suitable solution.

Summary: what to do if your iPhone is not charging?

There can be several reasons, but most of them can be resolved quickly: start with checking the port and cable and performing a forced restart, and if the problem persists – carry out diagnostics. If you still encounter difficulties, contact our service, and we will take care of your device.
